Festivals
The Hare Krishna followers certainly know how to celebrate And Srila Prabhupada our founder and principal teacher once wrote to a disciple, “There are so many festivals that I can give you one for every day.” Everyday is a festival in Krishna Consciousness!
Janmastami
Janmastami at Bhaktivedanta Manor stages the largest Hare Krishna festival in the world outside of India, each year receiving a staggering number of 50,000 pilgrims over a period of 2 days. The event is celebrated in great pomp and splendour.
Where the fun is
As many would say the real festival fun is all in the preparations before the festival event itself and yes can you believe up to 500 volunteers per day helped in the last few weeks of summer 2006. Why? Well we know its the buzz of so many coming together. A Beehive of activities. Carpenters sawing, drilling, hammering, tents and stages being erected, painting, fixing, rehearsing in plays, cleaning, setting up, preparing displays, cooking, tidying up the grounds and so much more; These are just some of the tasks performed by the enthusiastic teams - often after a hard day’s work at the office.
Janmastami usually takes place anytime from late august to the beginning of September. We require volunteers from Monday to Friday daytimes & evenings. (Evenings from 6 – 10.30pm. A full and opulent feast is served at 9.45pm every evening)
Please note if you wish to volunteer on the festival days, you will be required to attend on both days, each 12 hour shifts.
